Thank you. Yes, I like Vaclav Smil very much. He seldom gives interviews, and stays out of limelight. There is a chance that my blog will publish a review on one or more of his books, plus analyzing his ideas.

There is actually a scientific term for such visual perception, or rather, optical illusion, such as seeing happy faces in the clouds. It is called pareidolia, which is an example of apophenia, the tendency to perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things. It is a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus, usually an image or a sound, by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists (e.g. in random data). Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces or objects in cloud formations, the Man in the Moon and the Moon rabbit. Unfortunately, it appears that Dave Kimble, a leading Australian figure over the years in matters concerning peak oil, overshoot, and the environment, who was a frequent contributor to the comments section of Damn the Matrix blog, has passed away. Condolences to family and friends,
