I don’t think TPTB will ever choose to go down this route, but it will be forced on them by Peak Fossils.

Which is exactly why TPTB must be made to go down this route. We are the only sentient species on this planet (as far as we know). ‘Are we reactive or proactive?’ is the question. Intelligent life would, surely, be proactive; if we allow peak fossoil to determine our fate then we will have succeeded in mutating from homo sapiens sapiens to homo fatuus brutus.

What is the change in vegetative matter in the same period? Is part of the rise due to the fact that less of the CO2 is taken up by plants for use? Deforestation and urbanization has increased over this period.

There’s no doubt that deforestation in the Amazon and greater Indonesia has an impact on how much less CO2 is absorbed by Summer growth, but don’t forget the oceans have taken up MOST of the emissions…. and they will eventually reach saturation point, at which stage unless a serious crash ends said emissions, the rate of rise will keep climbing…

So, if the oceans have taken up the excess, why is there excess? How do we know how much the oceans have absorbed?

By the pH. Oceans have acidified, the new pH is a known quantity, we know (pretty closely) the volume of the oceans, and so it can be established how much CO2 has been absorbed. I’m sure if you google it you’ll find it.

Then the CO2 rise is understated in this curve. Though it isn’t stated in what I read on Wikipedia, I’d guess that rain fall is what washes the CO2 out of the air in an acid rain. I did find this on deforestation: “The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that the cutting down of forests is now contributing close to 20 per cent of the overall greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere.[4]” – so as a remediation – reducing this loss, growing more vegetation is a partial response. I let my weedy lawn grow higher than the neighborhood standard. If lawns were encouraged to be taller – 2″ rather than 1″ – what mitigation might that have? I’m not up for the math, but I’ve never seen the concept.

C02 only plays a minor role in acid rain. It’s some of the other crap we flush into the atmosphere.

Nitrogen fertilizer has been called the greatest environmental experiment we’ve undertaken. It feeds the algae blooms – like that in Lake Erie and pollutes groundwater. Invasive species live in the new niches in the human distorted biosphere. While heat is a problem, generating climate extremes, it is easier to cool than to heat, so heat capture may be more important as the sun goes quiet, as it is doing now. To track global weather and space weather, I watch Suspicious0bservers daily on YouTube. The human built environment – our matrix, exploits the natural world matrix and, as we can see has damaged it. As it adapts to our interference, we get smacked here and there. Nature is the master. Our mental environment – the ways we think about the natural environment and exploit it; steal the fire/energy for ourselves, creates energy debts that will be balanced. The powerful steal fire/energy from each other, enslave people and things for our own growth. A higher, more thoughtful, perhaps spiritual matrix needs to consider the overall management of our local planet home, what Buckminster Fuller called “spaceship earth,” so that human civilization will persist and grow its arts, science and cultures. Climate extremes are being experienced now. The universe is very cold, so conservative management actually requires that even those things in abundance need to be managed as scarce resources. Water, once contaminated,is very costly to restore to drinkable purity. Our technological slaves, the keyboard I’m using, the PC accessible network that puts these letters on a screen and in the data cloud are miraculous. Rather than damn the matrix, a mental environment matrix of long term thinking and action, a 300 year planning horizon, is needed. That will lead to restraint – the treatment of what seem to be abundant resources as scarce; a focus on quality of life – not quantity. Build a better matrix – the one we have is righteously predatory, fragmenting the human race, the only one on our local planet, in competition that seeks to dominate, instead of strengthen. Competition is key to evolution – and its all evolution here. Our physical sciences are quite lacking – they’ve mostly become political beliefs. What is needed is a new age of human unity and cooperation – a life perpetuation matrix.
