Study: Global Warming Has Increased Australia’s Chances Of Extreme Summers Five-Fold

11 07 2013

Researchers at the University of Melbourne have concluded that Australia is much more likely to see extremely hot summers thanks to human-driven global warming. This finding is based on a raft of climate measurements, plus over 90 climate model simulations. The context for the study is the record-smashing “Angry Summer” Australia just endured, which brought […]/p

their modelling is based purely on theory and mathematical calculations so what they say is only theory.

replant the habitat especially the barrier brigalow and mulga scrub which is our barrier to the heat extremes and cold extremes generated in the desert.

I notice now qld is getting more hotter days as our brigalow belt is cleared to create desert after around 7 years of broadacre farming. stop the rot now it is almost too late.

Len…….. even gravity is a theory.

surely you jest? what ahs that really got to do with anything? as far as I am concerned I just need to try and live in our overpriced culture, don’t need to know why rain falls, or apples drop out of tree, if we were going to lose the ability to walk upside down and not fall of then maybe that theory like climate theory might matter.

lets get real while this theory is pursued public health and dental fail, now that is no theory.

still can’t figure why people that I would consider more intelligent than me can believe this unfactual corroborated theory. I failed scholarship grade and and flunked secondry school by 1st term high school.

Len, could not be more serious……

So much of our daily life is based on theories, things that WORK, and none of which have been “proven”….. medicine is a clear example.

There is actually nothing wrong with climate models, apart from the fact that they are INACCURATE…. something all climate scientists acknowledge when they tell us it will be x degrees warmer by 2050 (or pick your own year) +/- y degrees…… Apart from that, things are getting WORSE and FASTER than they ever predicted! That’s how inaccurate they are……

It’s not a matter of “believing”. Science is about logical analysis, and perhaps, seeing as you admit to not being highly educated (and believe me I am not being critical here, there are lots of reasons why one may or may not be highly educated), you should let those who ARE highly educated (and trained) in the field of climatology crunch the numbers and realise that they know what they are doing…. and that they are right, because all the observed trends are agreeing with the theories.

if we are going to start walking on our ceiling or the bottom clouds science would be no help, all they would do is say we sucked up all this theoretical gravity.

sorry meant to say uncorroborated theory evidence.

Well I’m sorry too Len…… because “uncorroborated theory evidence” means NOTHING to me…….

yep that makes science forever theory, they come up with profits for their bosses and dividends for shareholders, that +’s crap.

I have T2 Db and CFS so I live with their crap theories.

yeh they do some good things especially when it comes to caners and joint replacements but this climate stuff is hype.

e need fixes not experiments in back rooms.

Len,
Unfortunately most people understand the meaning of the word theory to be the same as hypothesis. For a hypothesis to be accepted as a theory it must be repeatable and testable. If a theory fails in testing it is no longer accepted. Comparing the results of those models with the real world tests global warming modelling. If anything the modelling is conservative with regard to the amount of warming observed in the real world. The clearing of trees is only one factor in the human activities that is causing warming.

Like you Len, I am not a scientist but every day I rely on and enjoy the results of past scientist’s work and the application of their theories. I am quite prepared to accept the consensus of the vast percentage of climate and associated scientists with regard to global warming and it’s causes. If more of us did this and faced up to what the future will require of us we may be able to something about our predicament.

I agree in kind mike, their theoretical modelling is created by them using their own parameters which they alter at the drop of a hat as soon as their model fails them. look at dating started with carbon, then move to radiation X5 approx. variants, now into something like plasma or something dating at level 8 or so, they change their parameters to fit their story.

yes we must do something about the degradation of our eco’ system replant the forests.

they changed their bang theory from big bang to molleculare bang, where the chips of mollecules blew out (from something spinning madly not explosion into all the right orbits in our system) then those grains had to grow to planet size. and the rest is history we all formed out of slime from a medieval swamp. I believe something quiet different

science can’t even get medical fixes right. something organic

Len, ALL scientific studies involve “using their own parameters which they alter at the drop of a hat”……. THAT is how science is done.

Someone, a scientist, will say “I think blah blah blah…” That’s called a theory.

He then sets up an experiment to prove/disprove the theory. It might come as a shock to you that the vast majority of these experiment “fail” (to use your words) But this failure is now the basis to fine tune the theory… maybe there should be four blah’s!

So it’s back to the drawing board, set up a new experiment to see if four blahs indicate whether the theory holds up, or not, or needs another blah….

Sometimes, totally unexpected things happen, and a scientist will discover that two blahs will cure cancer…! or whatever….

You MUST understand that science is ALWAYS in a state of flux, always fine tuning its models and experimentation…. and once someone makes a significant discovery, they’ll write a paper on it, and it will be peer reviewed by other scientists who understand the effect of differing numbers of blahs, and they will make suggestions for improving the experiment, or tell the poor bugger his concept is a load of crap and he should forget about blahs altogether.

What you must understand is that scientists have no desire to come up with crap. Crap never made anyone famous, or got them the Nobel prize (for science at least..)

yes don but still a theory none the less and not a hint of factual fact behind it, just fear hype

sorry the masses where I dwell are not sold on it, we got past selling the harbour bridge to wealthy yanks.

a noble peace prize is nothing more than peer pat on the back stuff, means little in real life.

no fixes in this discussion just more hype

Len, I agree with you about vegetation clearing and the resulting desertification and expansion of local temperature ranges. You must agree then that this is one form of human induced climate change……

13 07 2013
len gardener

yes marg,
it is a form of human induce mostly local but also global weather climate changer, but not caused by CO2, in that sense there is no doubt increased CO2 caused by removing the very things that need CO2 to exist, plants forests etc, they are all their in nature(well only about 10% now in aus’ to do their job, that is why all forests are not the same ie.,. barrier forests(the removal of gives us hotter and colder(seasonal) conditions, then there are riparian, wet scarrion, dry scrub forests etc.,. etc.,.

the lush rainforest jungle ones are now mostly under attack because the others are already decimated, removing monsoonal area jungle to grow oil palms, to create an automotive city, that is why our season weather is so topsy turvey, mad hatters are running the show, theorists.

I said before many people out there with more intelligence than me, but they get conned by theory, no fact, the only fact the lower socio economic classes who have always struggled trying to get employed by the manipulators now failing to pay power bills that the academics are in denial about, they are struggling to buy food, fuel, water if they are very very fortunate to have a roof over their heads. seen families sleeping in parks on the ground, in cars, in tents, and educated yuppie types asking councils to move them on.

lets get real
